Should You Use an Entertainment Agent?

If you are planning an event such as a wedding or corporate event then the entertainment will be high on your list of priorities. Getting it right could be the key to a successful event - get it wrong and it could be a disaster! So when considering the entertainment how can you ensure you get quality acts?
There are many entertainment agencies out there covering a wide range of bands. Some specialise in wedding bands whereas others specialise in corporate bands for business events. If you are looking to hire a band quality acts will be signed up with a music agency. Live music can really make your event memorable and an entertainment agent will offer you advice and guidance to help you select the right band. An agent will have many acts on his books and acts as a one stop shop saving you time and effort. Of course you can browse through hundreds of web pages looking for your perfect band but using an agent takes all the hard work out of the process.
As long as you do your research and choose a reputable company to work with you won't go far wrong. Another benefit is that you will enter into a legal binding contract which will secure the booking and give you some protection. This way you can be reasonably sure that the band will actually turn up! You should always get a signed contract where possible or at least a confirmation email/letter confirming the details of the booking. If things do go wrong which is rare then using an agent gives you a point of contact you can go back to and make a complaint of need be. It's an extra level of security rather than booking a band direct. You may pay slightly more than if you book a band direct but usually music agents get preferable rates from the bands they work with so often it can be cheaper than going directly to the band.
Look for reviews of entertainment agencies to check them out first. Often reputable agents will have testimonials on their site. If you want to you can ask to speak to past clients. The benefits of using an agent to hire a band for wedding bands and corporate bands are clear. Take your time and work closely with the entertainment agent clearly communicating your needs and your event should be a huge success.
